Getting there and around
Airport Flying into Hamburg is fairly easy; its international airport has flights to and from 130 destinations, though many of these are within Germany or Europe, particularly Scandinavia. Services between the city centre and the airport are excellent, with an airport bus leaving every 30 minutes. You can also take an airport bus to Altona or take the S-1 or U-1 trains to Ohlsdorf and change to an airport express bus.
Train The city is well served by trains, with no less than four train stations. There are hourly trains to Lübeck, Kiel, Bremen, Frankfurt and Munich. There are also regular direct services to Berlin, Cologne, Copenhagen and Paris; Warsaw requires a change in Cologne.
Bus Buses connect with Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, Prague and Copenhagen, with some agencies specialising in trips to Eastern Europe.
Ferry If you're coming from England, a car ferry to/from the English port of Harwich offers a convenient ride to the heart of the city. There are various rates depending on your level of luxury and whether you bring your vehicle.
Getting Around Hamburg's extensive system of U-bahn, S-bahn, buses and ferries won't leave you stranded. S- and U-bahn tickets can be purchased at the bright orange machines at station entrances, while bus tickets are available from the driver.
